The pleated high-rise trouser has its origins in mid-20th century Neapolitan tailoring—a period when trouser construction prioritised elegant drape over tight fit. This version maintains that classical proportion whilst using contemporary technical fabrics that perform through daily wear.

The Construction

High-rise waistband sitting at the natural waist. The elevated position creates proper torso-to-leg proportion and allows the trouser to drape from the hip rather than cling. Two forward-facing pleats per leg—not decorative but functional, providing room for natural movement whilst maintaining clean lines when standing. The pleats release when sitting, preventing fabric stress at pressure points.

Side adjustable tabs with tonal buttons. Traditional Neapolitan tailoring detail allowing waist adjustment without belts—the tabs sit flat against the body, secured by four-hole buttons positioned at hip level. Zip fly with extended hook-and-bar closure at waistband. Belt loops constructed from self-fabric for those preferring traditional belt wear.

Slash pockets at the front angled toward the side seam—easier hand access, cleaner front profile. Welt pockets at the back with button-through flap closure. All buttonholes hand-finished. Side seams and inseam finished with flat-felled construction for durability.

The Fabric

Performance polyester-Lycra blend engineered to mimic natural fibre drape whilst providing technical benefits. The polyester creates structured appearance and maintains pleat definition through wear and washing. The Lycra—typically 2-5% of composition—provides controlled stretch allowing natural movement without fabric distortion. The blend offers wrinkle resistance, shape retention, and easy care whilst maintaining the visual weight necessary for proper pleated drape.

The Cut

Straight leg from thigh to hem with no taper. The leg opening measures 30.5-34.5cm depending on size, allowing the trouser to fall clean to the shoe without gathering. Medium break at the shoe when hemmed to proper length. The generous cut through the thigh accommodates the pleated volume whilst the straight leg maintains proportion.

The Details

Waistband lined with polyester lining for smooth comfort. Pocket bags constructed from matching polyester—durable and low-friction. All stress points bar-tacked. Hem finished with blind stitch allowing easy adjustment if needed. Thread colour matched precisely to fabric.

Sizing

These trousers are cut to high-rise specifications. The waist sits approximately 2-3cm higher than contemporary mid-rise styles. Side tabs allow approximately 5cm adjustment either side of stated waist measurement. The Lycra content provides comfortable give without appearing stretchy.
